LOGLINE:
During his father's wake, Cody uncovers a mysterious device in the home study that transports him and his best friend to a dimension between worlds. What begins as a thrilling playground of discovery soon turns dangerous when they realise they're not alone, and this new reality may hold the key to his father's true disappearance.
SHORT SYNOPSIS:

“Drifters” follows Cody, a grieving teen who discovers a mysterious device hidden in his late father’s study. When he and his best friend Trevor activate it, they slip out of phase with reality, able to move unseen and untouchable through the world. At first, the boys use their new power for pranks and shortcuts, but strange agents begin to appear, a black SUV tracks them, and Cody uncovers evidence that his father was involved in secret military research at a vanished site called “Beehive.”

Hunted by “ghostlike” operatives who can drift between quantum layers, Cody teams up with Nathan, his father’s old colleague, and Peter, a local cop who once served with Michael. Together they mount a high‑risk infiltration of Horizon, an off‑books prison where Michael is being held. Using the device to slip in and out of visibility, Cody and Trevor navigate a lethal facility to reunite father and son and expose the truth. In the aftermath, Cody apparently destroys the devices—until, months later in Las Vegas, Trevor discovers Cody has kept one hidden, hinting the drifters’ story isn’t over.

GENRE & TONE

Genre:
A YA sci‑fi thriller with elements of conspiracy mystery and heist/escape movie, anchored in a father–son story.

Tone:
Grounded, character‑driven and emotional, with a mix of teenage humour and escalating suspense. Early scenes lean into playful, wish‑fulfilment fun as the boys test the device, before shifting into a tense, paranoid chase and a contained, high‑stakes prison break. The world stays relatable and contemporary, with the sci‑fi kept tactile and street‑level rather than grand or operatic.
